Mexico All Inclusive

It seems like everyone I know is on a hot vacation at the moment. I live where winters can be long and cold, so a hot holiday to break things up is such a nice thing.

It’s been many years since I’ve gone on a winter holiday to somewhere warm and exotic. Mexico is a big beach destination where I live because it’s fairly easy to get to and there are so many all inclusive resorts.

I live in a fairly small city and we even have direct flights right to Puerto Vallarta because it’s such a popular destination!

Many of my friends take annual vacations to Mexico with their children as lots of these all inclusive resorts are very kid-friendly. There are kids day camps where you can drop your kids off for a day full of fun activities. The pools are usually awesome and great for kids and there’s lots of beaches to play on and build sand castles in.

My kids are getting a little bit older now and we are starting to consider a vacation like this. Prior to now, my kids have been difficult travellers and busy kids so we have opted to stay closer to home.

I am looking forward to going on adventures with my kids at an all inclusive resort one day soon. So many of the excursions you can do are incredibly memorable and make the trip exciting. One time when my husband and I were first married we went to an all inclusive in Mexico and we did a whole bunch of excursions. We still joke about how he dropped me off of a sea-do in the middle of the ocean because he was driving like a maniac. I was not very happy…but it certainly made for some memories!

Taking vacations is such a great way to make memories - and what better place to do it than somewhere like an all inclusive in Mexico!

Interesting Fact #1

An all-inclusive rate lets you pay upfront for a vacation package, which covers the cost of your hotel room, food, activities, and resort amenities.

SOURCE

Interesting Fact #2

While buffet style is a popular serving method at all-inclusive resorts, they will also have a la carte restaurants available in your all-inclusive package. All the dishes are still included, you just place your order with a waiter instead of dishing it up yourself.

Interesting Fact #3

Each restaurant will typically have its own dress code. Casual places may allow flip-flops and swimsuit coverups. Meanwhile, nicer restaurants may require dresses, collard shirts, or dress shoes.

Article of the day - Guide to Mexico All Inclusive

I am so excited to share with you guys me and Jamie’s trip to Mexico. This is our second year in a row we were able to go on a weekend getaway! Last year we went to Excellence Playa Mujeres and had the most amazing time and this year we went to a Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya Resort. We literally left on a Friday and came home on a Sunday so it was a whirlwind trip but worth it! I asked you guys what questions you had about our trip & wanted to answer them all here!

Your Mexico Trip Questions

Did we use a travel agent?

Yes we used Lia Nelson – @Onthebrinkofadventure. She has booked several trips for us and is wonderful! We have used her for many of our trips to Excellence Resort.

Is the resort all inclusive?

YES! I absolutely love all inclusives. It is so much fun to arrive at the resort and not have to worry about one thing. You could lock your wallet up and not touch it for a week. That is so rare in our culture that I find it liberating to just have nothing to worry about. Food and Drink were so good , we did just have some cash for the bartenders and waiters to leave at the tables. They also had people that would bring you food and drink pool side- which there is nothing better than a afternoon snack by the pool

Did we feel safe?

Yes, we never had a moment when we felt unsafe. I would suggest booking all transportation through your resort or let your travel agent book it for you. I also haven’t ever left the resort once I arrive. Aside from going this time to work with Jamie, it is usually Andrew and I going to celebrate an anniversary. We love to just enjoy slow days, lots of books and sunshine. All that to say I can’t speak to feeling safe if you leave the resort or do an excursion.

Was there seaweed on the beach?

Yes, however they literally had a dump truck out each morning to dig it all up. I didn’t feel like it was terrible unless it is something that really bothers you. I do know some seasons are more prone to seaweed then others- so definitely something you can research!

What to pack ?

I literally have to go through my packing list every time because last year I forgot pajamas.. so I had to borrow Jamie’s! I have this list that I use that will hopefully be helpful to you as well!

Is this resort family friendly ?

No it is adults only, but I know there are resorts that are family friendly.

How is food/ where to eat?

The food was awesome. We didn’t get to try all the restaurants, we only stayed two nights.

Dinner the first night was at Himitsu, we did sushi and then hibachi with shrimp and chicken. It was excellent. Breakfast was obviously great. I love a breakfast & especially at an all inclusive. They have omelette stations, crepe stations, all the pastries you could ever want- my foodie self was very satisfied. We did lunch by the pool for the second afternoon- we got pizza and fajitas. Dinner the second night was my personal favorite. We wanted to try as many restaurants as possible, so we did apps at Portofino (Italian) and dinner at El Patio (Mexican). Both were really good and I loved the fact we could restaurant hop.

What is the cost?

This resort was a little more expensive than the prior ones we went to. Obviously it was beautiful and a wonderful experience. I personally think I am a little partial to Excellence Resorts. They cost just a little less but I actually felt like the overall experience was better IMO, but I also could be biased!

Honestly I love all inclusive in general when planning your Mexico Trip. I have personally been to more excellence but had a wonderful time at this secrets resort! It was a great getaway to work , relax, and enjoy the sun! If you are looking for a family trip make sure to check out my guide to Disney World with kids!
