This laboratory testing instrument is designed to assess the testing of various grades of polymer granules, enabling operators to conduct melt flow index tests on multiple specimens simultaneously.
To initiate the testing process, the operator places the specimen into the specifically designed barrel of the instrument.
A dedicated press tool is provided with the melt flow index tester to eliminate any air gaps in the barrel, ensuring proper compression and pressure on the sample.
The barrel containing the sample is equipped with dry heaters to raise the temperature around the specimen, causing it to melt under the heat.
Additionally, the instrument features a piston that applies pressure to the specimen in the heated barrel. The piston can be adjusted to different weights, ranging from 0.7 kg to 21 kg, depending on the grade of the polymer granules being tested. Standard weights, compliant with designated standards, typically range from 1 kg to 5 kg.
The combination of applied pressure and heated temperatures inside the barrel causes the specimen to flow out of the die located below the barrel.
The molten polymer granules exit the die as sticks, which are uniformly cut by a rotating cutter positioned immediately outside the die. This action causes the specimen to fall onto a laboratory-grade stainless steel circular plate.
Following the procedure, the operator can easily collect the sample from the stainless steel plate and calculate the melt flow index using a formula – grams per 10 minutes.
The instrument is equipped with advanced features that enhance accuracy, precision, durability, and allow for single-handed testing.
