API Grade B pipe is formulated of Iron, along with the alloying elements consisting of 0.30% Carbon, 1/20% Manganese, 0.40% Copper,0.40% of Nickel, 0.40% of Chromium, 0.15% of Molybdenum, Sulphur, Phosphorus, and Vanadium are functional in quantities. The tensile strength of this pipe is 415 mph, while its yielding strength covers 240Mph. The American Petroleum Institute monitors the description while Steel India Company manufactures under the mentioned specifications. There are A, B and X grades. The most used among these grades is API 5L Grade B pipes.
ASTM A53 Grade B pipe is generally a grade pipe for oil and transmissions of gas. It is also anticipated as an L245 pipe. It is named for the minimum yield strength of 245 Mpa (355,000 Psi). It is equivalent to ASTM A106 Grade B and ASTM A53B, which share chemical and mechanical properties. API 5L Grade B consists of PSL1 and PSL2 and Sour Services specifically for Onshore and offshore pipelines.
Process of Making
Blooms, Billets, Coil or plates are used for the manufacturing of pipes. It should be made of essential oxygen, an electric furnace or a combination of hearth and a processor ladle refining. For the making of PSL2, the steel should be melted according to the acceptable grain practice. The welds should not have any waste or residue material.
Features of API Grade B pipe:
*The ASTM A333 Grade 6 pipe consists of high resistance, which avoids cracking in long pipes.
* They are easily available and affordable for long term projects from API 5L Pipe suppliers.
*The Grade B line projects are primarily favourable for sour service, as they have the formula to resist Sulphide pressure cracks due to the deposition of Hydrogen Sulphide. Hydrogen Sulphide brittles the pipes as mixed with the water.
*Chromium and Molybdenum strengthen the resistance of API 5L Grade B Pipe to prevent cracking and corrosion
* Along with the benefits of chemical properties, these pipes have a stiff and portable design.
* Made in machines that can execute well while under pressure.
* The Grade B pipes are either made via machine or by welding. These pipes could be made 24inch long, as per the demand.
*The Grade B pipes are of two types, PSL1 and PSL2 pipes. Type 1 is used for Sch 40 Grade B pipes, while the second type is used for rigid purposes consisting of chemical and mechanical properties. The type 2 properties require testing before application
Experimenting before practice:
Many effective tests are being conducted by ss 304 pipe suppliers in Mumbai on the pipes to highlight the better quality of the pipe. These tests incorporate a positive material identification test, flattening test, hardening test, impact test, flaring test, micro test, chemical and IGC test.
Flattening test: There is an approval criterion.
1)EW pipes D<12.750in.
2) X60 with T500in.
There shall be no entrance of the weld, and the distance should be 66% of the original outside diameter.
Band test: There shall be no cracks while testing the piece and the weld should not open.To all the customers purchasing the pipes, documents providing proof of high-quality products are delivered.
