History is the reason each state has its flag. Before the United States annexed various states, these territories were independent entities that had their own laws. ALASKA

The background depicts the sky, sea, and state flower, the forget me-not. The North Star, which represents Alaska's future is also represented by the Big Dipper, also called the Great Bear.
CALIFORNIA
California's flag is adorned with a grizzly Bear. This symbol, similar to the Great Bear constellation on Alaska, represents strength. California had a special symbol for independence, and it used it to flagellate its independence from Mexico 1846.
As the American flag is representative of our nation, each state's flag serves as a symbol. These emblems are often meaningful because they relate to the history of the state.
