The basic stages for reading an EKG are as follows:
Recognise the waves and gaps. An EKG consists of a number of waves and intervals. The heart's electrical activity is represented by each wave and interval.
Check your heart rate. The heart rate can be calculated by counting the QRS complexes in an EKG strip that lasts for 10 seconds and multiplying that number by 6.
