Throughout the week, you'll come to my mind
In everyday things, I'm sure that I'll find
An instance that keeps you right here with me
In places I go, in things that I see--
Each Sunday morning, when I butter the toast
Then make it to church for the hymns you loved most;
I'll keep you beside me, as I sit in the pew
And send up a prayer especially for you.
Those blah, weekday mornings when I'm watching the news
I'll remember our kitchen and how you would choose
A bagel, a waffle, or oatmeal perhaps
We'd sit there together, our napkins on laps.
When I go to the market, I'll keep you there too
And check off the list as you used to do.
You'll be in the car when I make a wrong turn
You gave me directions without being stern.
The music you loved is something I'll keep,
It goes through my head and lulls me to sleep;
Your favorite books I'll keep on the shelf
With the page you had marked, I'll continue myself
I'll love you, I'll laugh you
I'll remember and weep you;
In my heart and my mind,
Forever I'll keep you.
