Super Duplex difference from Duplex
Based on the microstructural phases in which they occur, stainless steels are divided into various classes. Although each class of stainless steels has its own unique microstructural phase, the microstructure of duplex stainless steels is similar to that of two other classes: ferritic and austenitic stainless steels. Duplex stainless steel has a microstructure that combines ferrite and austenite. Due to the equivalent ratio between these two crystalline forms, duplex steels have a 50/50 mixture of austenite and ferrite. Duplex stainless steel also comes in three more subcategories, one of which is super duplex stainless steel.
