I have this friend who lives next door, and we have all these...things...in common
I haven’t had this much comfortable, easy fun with someone since I was young
..which I’m not
...but he is...
We decided on benefits because how could we not in the midst of all these sparks
We share music and food and words and so much laughter it hurts
Then we share our bodies
It’s beautiful
...passionate and free and timeless
We love each other
...as friends do
with a closeness that seems more old than new
We talk like ancients, or children, in a soul deep way with awe and innocence and terrifying honesty
We aren’t perfect for each other
But we would be, if time hadn’t seen to it that we weren’t
We love each other
...as friends do
So we’ll bask in each other’s presence for a season or two and in the memories for a lifetime
Like the night we stood in the moonlight dancing beneath the stars, our bodies still warm from his bed, his voice as smooth as his hands on my hips
“Do we make love?” he asked
The intensity of a night’s sky has nothing on this man’s eyes
“Yes,” I whispered as I lost myself in them... “Yes...we’re making love.”
