In a temple, there lived an old man and two young monks. One day, the old monk said to the young monk, " We have not much rice, you go out to the collection to buy some rice."The little monk agreed, and set out the next day. But not long after leaving, the little monk came back. He told the old monk that the bridge across the river from the mountain was rotten and people could not go. The old monk asked, " Can't you get around it in another way?"The young monk said," You must walk several times more times around that. I heard the nearby mountain people said, they will build the bridge immediately, it is better to wait for the bridge to repair out of the mountain."The old monk was now silent. A few days later, the old monk sent the young monk to buy rice again. After several hours passed, the young monk came back carrying the bag. Seeing the old monk, the young monk immediately said, " Master, the bridge is being repaired. Now it is not yet finished. Please buy rice when they repair it. I don't think it will take me too long to build the bridge."The old monk looked at the rice bowl that was reached the bottom and sighed," Well, wait what you said."I estimated that the bridge should be repaired, and then the rice in the rice bowl had been eaten clean. The old monk said, " Go on, go quickly. If we can't buy rice again, we should be hungry."The little monk packed up his things and went on his way. But this time, the little monk went very quickly and came back very quickly. As soon as he met, the young monk said to the old monk anxiously, "Master, no good, the bridge was repaired to the end, but it was damaged by the sudden flash flood upstream. Even the road around was flooded by the flood. We should be hungry..." The old monk sighed: " In fact, this situation was doomed from the beginning. When the bridge was broken, if you had made up your mind and walked out from the road around it, although it took some energy, but the rice should have already bought it. But you don't want to struggle, and take chances, the result, again and again, caused today's predicament, you say, who can you blame this?"The little monk could not help lowering his head. Most of the time, we always consider how to cut corners, take shortcuts, even if there is an accident, but also be lucky, refused to change the camera, pay more, as a result, the opportunity of success is so easily released by ourselves
