2.How is a copper bonded earthing rod manufactured and what makes it different from solid copper rods?
A COPPER BONDED EARTHING ROD is an indispensable part of earthing systems and is made to last and provide, therefore, a great combination of conductivity. The method of production is the key factor that differentiates it from the regular solid copper rods. Rather than consisting fully of copper, the copper bonded rod is first built around a core of high-strength low-carbon steel. This steel core grants the rod excellent mechanical strength, so it is able to withstand hammering and penetrate deeply into the ground without any bending occurring.
After that, the rod is coated with a thick and uniform layer of electrolytic copper which is produced through advanced bonding or electroplating technology. This copper layer, which is usually around 250–300 microns thick, is very tightly bonded to the steel core, therefore having a long life as well as being resistant to corrosion. Consequently, we have a rod that behaves like copper outside but is strong as steel inside.
On the downside, the bonded rods are still cost-effective compared to solid copper rods but still, the latter are highly conductive yet still softer and more expensive, thus less suited for rocky or hard soil conditions.
PIONEER POWER INTERNATIONAL produces only top-quality COPPER BONDED EARTHING ROD solutions that ensure high conductivity, resistance to chemical effects, long life, and superior operation in industrial, commercial, and residential grounding areas.
