Apple Unveils iOS 18 Public Beta 5 and More
Apple has rolled out the fifth public beta of iOS 18, along with beta 5 updates for iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and other platforms. These updates, now available for all users enrolled in Apple’s public beta program, follow the release of companion developer betas earlier in the day. Users already participating in the beta program can find the new updates in the Software Update section under Settings on their devices.
Minimal Changes in iOS 18 Public Beta 5
Apple unveils iOS 18 public beta 5 primarily focuses on addressing bugs and enhancing performance. As Apple gears up for the official release of iOS 18 and its related updates, this latest beta iteration marks a significant step towards finalizing the software. According to Mark Gurman, today’s betas indicate that iOS 18 is effectively in its final stage, with only a few feature additions reserved for the iPhone 16.
Although beta 5 aims to refine the system’s stability, users are unlikely to notice substantial changes compared to previous versions. The update is expected to improve overall smoothness and performance, but new feature introductions are minimal.
Anticipation Builds for September Launch
With the public release of iOS 18 scheduled for next month, anticipation is building for Apple’s upcoming event. The company is expected to unveil the release date for iOS 18 during its iPhone 16 launch event, which is speculated to occur on September 10. As the official launch approaches, today’s iOS 18 beta 5 may be among the final updates before the public release.
The release of beta 5 follows last week’s beta 4, which brought several notable changes, including the renaming of Apple Music’s Browse tab to New, a new dedicated Bluetooth control in Control Center, and integration of app icon tinting with wallpaper and Lock Screen settings. Additionally, dark mode icons now display correctly in notification banners, and various Control Center icons have been redesigned.
According to Gurman, further changes are unlikely before the September launch. The primary focus now is to ensure the stability of iOS 18, with Apple prioritizing bug fixes over new feature developments in the final stretch before the official release.
