ACHIEVEMENTS

There was a time in my life that fear held me hostage. When I look back with 20/20 hindsight the root of the fear is obvious – it all came down to failure. When you hold yourself to a standard that doesn’t allow for mistakes, you may as well resign yourself to a life without much success - unless you are born with the proverbial horseshoe, and the jury is still out on whether that actually exists.
Some of the greatest achievements in modern history came about as a result of failure. Take Thomas Edison, for instance, who had over 1000 unsuccessful attempts before creating the light bulb. His philosophy, according to literature through the ages, held that negative results are as valuable as positive, for the only way to find the thing that does the job best is in finding the ones that don’t. After my string of successful failures since stepping past the fear of long ago, I couldn’t agree more.
