Dignity in Dying

My husband Kristin Bradbury became a member of Dignity in Dying a few years ago after he received his cancer diagnosis.


His bowel cancer reached his brain and life became very difficult for him. He never said he was ever actually in pain, but I still knew exactly at which point he wanted to die.


He completed an advance decision and after his final diagnosis he attempted to end his life (a home-made approach) on 13 separate occasions.


He did not want me to physically help him as he knew what the cost might be. I remember being in our bedroom directly above where he was, hearing movements, and not knowing if he was alive or dead the following morning. I would have been grateful on his behalf for a professional medic to have been able to help him.


His last 8 days were in a hospice, which was excellent, but it wasn’t home.
