When it is time to move into a new apartment, it is important to take a look at the amount of rent and when it is due. Your landlord is going to work with you to make sure that the rent is affordable for what you need. Usually they will not let you move into the apartment unless you are able to make three times the rent in income. This is not a personal favor for you; it is a way to ensure that you will be a good tenant and will be able to afford it for the full-term of the lease. The goal is for you to pay your rent on time each month so that you do not end up with problems and even an eviction along the way.
But what does happen when you are not able to pay your rent on time? Your lease should be able to tell you what will happen and whether you are going to be in trouble for this or not. Often there are going to be some late fees if the rent is a little late. There may be a grace period to help with this, so check the lease to see whether you can get that or not. If you know ahead of time that there may be a problem with the rent, then you should discuss it with the landlord and make them aware of it, so that the two of you can work out a payment plan and perhaps avoid some of the penalties.
If you are late for your rent payment on a consistent basis or you end up not paying the rent at all, then the landlord is able to start the eviction proceedings. For the most part, it will make more sense for you to talk to your landlord and communicate when there are problems, then make the rent payment on time as soon as you can. This can avoid some of the problems with late fees and having to worry about an eviction getting on your record.
