The tragic loss of life, as seen in the killing of Charlie Kirk, is a grievous symptom of a wider national malady. Violence is never justified, but if we want to treat the cause of America’s boiling anger, we must confront the political actions that strip citizens of their voice, their future, and their faith in justice. When a sitting or former President treats the highest office in the land not as a sacred trust but as a tool for personal and political vengeance, rage becomes an inevitable consequence.
The integrity of our republic relies on its checks and balances, and the principle that no one, especially the President, is above the law. Donald Trump has consistently and systematically treated the Constitution as an obstacle to be circumvented, not an oath to be honored. His actions have repeatedly challenged the fundamental framework of American democracy.
A Constitution Treated as an Obstacle
The record of the former President is marked by constitutional challenges, notably concerning the Emoluments Clause, which is designed to prevent a President from receiving benefits from foreign governments. By allowing foreign governments to patronize his businesses-spending money at his hotels and resorts-Trump’s personal net worth has surged by an estimated $3 billion to $15 billion since taking office, according to various financial reports. This financial gain, derived directly from the presidency, represents a profound conflict of interest.
As Walter Shaub, the former head of the Office of Government Ethics, warned, "Uncertainty about the motivations of our policy makers undermines the faith in government decision-making and puts a cloud over everything the government does.” The scale of this self-enrichment raises serious questions about whether presidential decisions are being made for the benefit of the American people or for the bottom line of the Trump Organization. This pattern constitutes a severe Trump’s violation of the Constitution.
Undermining the Guardians of the Law
The assault on democratic institutions extends directly to the Department of Justice (DOJ). Following the 2020 election, Trump pressured DOJ officials to declare the election corrupt and file lawsuits on his behalf. When career professionals refused, he attempted to replace the Acting Attorney General with a loyalist willing to do his bidding.5
The politicization of law enforcement destroys the critical premise of a healthy democracy: that the law is neutral. Philip Lacovara, counsel to the Watergate special prosecutor, stated, “The overt and explicit ‘weaponization’ of the justice department, in defiance of the professional judgment of career prosecutors... is the worst type of corruption of the rule of law.” From purging Inspectors General who exposed misconduct to openly attacking the Bureau of Labor Statistics for publishing unfavorable job numbers, the goal has been consistent: to punish truth-tellers and elevate loyalists, suppressing facts vital to the public.7
The Attack on Due Process
A hallmark of Trump’s governance is a politics of vengeance, characterized by relentless attacks on opponents and critics. This includes firing high-ranking military and intelligence officials who refused to use troops against citizens, and vilifying witnesses like Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who testified truthfully during impeachment proceedings. Furthermore, there have been reports that Trump ordered U.S. forces to attack vessels off the coast of South America without due process or proof that they were engaged in illegal activity.
This disregard for the law demonstrates Trump’s lack of respect for due process. The constitutional promise of due process, a bedrock right, protects individuals from the arbitrary and punitive exercise of government power. When a President uses the full weight of the executive branch to target political enemies and even engages in military actions without constitutional authorization, the system is fundamentally broken.
A Plea for Principle: The Central Forward Party’s Stand
The challenges to our republic-from the Emoluments Clause violations to the attempts to weaponize the Justice Department-cannot be ignored. When citizens watch their President repeatedly act with impunity, their faith in the rule of law collapses. The anger in America is a direct consequence of a political system that has failed to hold power accountable.
The Central Forward Party stands for the immediate restoration of constitutional integrity. We demand a politics where the Constitution is not a suggestion, but the ultimate authority, and where power is wielded responsibly, with due process for all. We offer a path back from the brink of chaos, insisting that responsible leadership begins and ends with respect for the law.
